Frequently Asked Questions

GENERAL

Accelerate is a digital tool for Christian leaders designed to accelerate your learning through book briefs. Every month, members get access to 8 new book briefs of top theology books distilled to their key insights. Although we are currently focusing on developing systems, operations, and teams to ensure Accelerate can run smoothly and last for the long-run, we will soon turn our attention to creating infographics and audio MP3s as well!

Leaders are readers. And we would argue that everybody is a leader in some areas of their lives — whether positively or negatively.

While there is an obvious benefit to pastors and ministers, many of our members are students, stay-at-home parents, and lay leaders. Whether you’re called to the business sector, an elementary school teacher, or working in IT, Accelerate can help you grow as a Christian.

Put simply, Accelerate is designed for anybody willing and wanting to learn and grow.

While our writers come from a variety of conservative theological backgrounds (Presybeterian, Baptist, & Lutheran), the books we summarize come largely from a Reformed Theology context. You will find books by contemporary authors such as John Piper, D. A. Carson, Al Mohler, John MacArthur, Timothy Keller, and Sinclair Ferguson. You will also find older authors such as Martyn Lloyd-Jones, Charles Spurgeon, Jonathan Edwards, and the Puritans.

However, we will be also summarizing books from authors outside of the Reformed tradition. These authors may include C. S. Lewis, Ravi Zacharias, N. T. Wright, Dallas Willard, William Lane Craig, Os Guinness, Philip Yancey, Thom Rainer, Paul Zahl, and others.

The focus of our book summaries will be on theology books, with categories including:

  • Apologetics
  • Arts / Literature
  • Christian Living
  • Church / Ministry
  • Counseling
  • Culture / Social Issues
  • Education
  • Evangelism / Missions
  • History
  • Leadership
  • Marriage / Family
  • Theology

We will not be accelerating Commentaries, Reference Books, Biographies, or Devotionals.

We have partnerships with publishers such as Crossway, CruciformPress, and InterVarsity. Currently, we are working to develop more partnerships with more publishers.

Here’s how some of our members have described Accelerate:

“Greatly summarized book summaries full of meat and desserts”

“50 words effectively summarizing 1000 words”

“The Sparknotes of Christian Literature. A better form of Cliff Notes to broaden and deepen our knowledge of God, His world and the gospel.”

“Accelerate is like a tasting (tapas) menu at the finest bookstore you can imagine.”

“My personal reading assistant”

“Efficient, practical, purposeful, direct, best product of 2018”

Read what Sharon Herbitter has to say:

I’ll admit it.

I was skeptical about the benefits of Accelerate. Oh, whether or not benefits would exist — sure they would — but would they be worth paying for? I honestly couldn’t imagine they would.

So I checked it out and was blown away.

While the [beta] content isn’t extensive yet, what is there is outstanding. My early doubts are gone and I can get a good sense of a book that I just don’t have time to read.

There are books I’m curious about, but with only 24 hours in a day (would someone work on that problem, please?) I can’t read everything I’m curious about (and I can’t afford to do that either!)

Accelerate scratches that itch and even gives me enough information toallow me to discuss a book without investing the time and money required to read every page.

Hear what Carlos M. has to say:

Publishers are on board with this project Because Accelerate doesn’t aim to replace reading or buying books; it’s a win-win for both readers and publishers/authors. Furthermore, many of our members have decided to buy the book after reading a book brief and wanting to learn more.

FEATURES

You’re probably wondering why our website still says BETA in our logo. The short version of the story is that our first few website development projects didn’t go exactly as planned; our timelines have been constantly delayed and so we are consistently working on the website. While the book briefs themselves are all ready for you, we’re considering our website itself in a BETA stage until we can confidently say all bugs are fixed. Until then, we’d be delighted if you would report any bugs (or suggestions) to us at info@acceleratebooks.com

Currently, we do not have a native mobile phone application. Instead, we will soon be launching a progressive web application (PWA) which is the middle ground between a native mobile app and a mobile-friendly website. This means you will be able to easily access Accelerate on your phone for reading and listening to the audio. You can also download the audio and PDF to your phone as well.

However, we definitely plan to have native mobile apps in the future as our budget allows! 🙂

Absolutely! You can see which books are available at the Library page.

Yes. If you aren’t interested in our monthly subscription, you can purchase the book brief PDFs for $4.99 each! We will soon have them available on Amazon as well (as a Kindle eBook and Paperback).

Please note, if you are already a subscriber, all buttons labeled “buy now” will automatically switch to “download”; Accelerate members have access to all our published book briefs and 8 new ones each month!

Your membership gives you 8 new book briefs every single month, as well as access to the entire existing library of book briefs. Additionally, you will soon have a chance to earn theologian bobbleheads as part of our referral rewards system (more on that later).
