Frequently Asked Questions
Although most of our members are pastors that use Accelerate for sermon preparation and team development, many of our members are leaders of various different ministries or simply Christians wanting to grow deeper in their knowledge of Christ.
Our Accelerate family consist of professors, students, software engineers, lawyers, homemakers, bank managers, police officers, and more!
While our writers come from a variety of conservative theological backgrounds, the books we summarize come largely from a Calvinistic theological stream. You will find books by contemporary authors such as John Piper, D. A. Carson, Al Mohler, John MacArthur, Timothy Keller, and Sinclair Ferguson. You will also find older authors such as Martyn Lloyd-Jones, Charles Spurgeon, Jonathan Edwards, and the Puritans.
However, we will be also summarizing books from authors outside of the Reformed tradition. These authors may include C. S. Lewis, Ravi Zacharias, N. T. Wright, Dallas Willard, William Lane Craig, Os Guinness, Philip Yancey, Thom Rainer, Paul Zahl, and others.
What separates Accelerate from other book summary programs?
There are TWO principles that shape our book summaries and make this program unique:
#1: The Insight Principle
"Books don't change people, paragraphs do and sometimes sentences. They may lodge themselves so powerfully in our mind that its effect is enormous when all else is forgotten." – John Piper
You may forget a book's page numbers, but you'll never forget its' worldview-shaping insights.
Accelerate identifies these paragraphs and sentences. After spending hours analyzing a book, our team extracts the key insights and then strategically presents them in a way that is easy to grasp. More than summarizing books chapter-by-chapter, we focus on maximizing reader comprehension and retention.
#2: The 20% Principle
"80% of a book's main insights are found in 20% of the pages. So without apology, I ransack books for what I can get in the little time I have in this season of life." – David Mathis
In other words, while most of a book's pages exist to illustrate and solidify a handful of main ideas, these main ideas reside within 20% of the pages. Accelerate book summaries give you access to this 20%, allowing you to quickly grasp the book.
The focus of our Book Briefs will be on theology books, with categories including:
- Apologetics
- Arts / Literature
- Christian Living
- Church / Ministry
- Counseling
- Culture / Social Issues
- Education
- Evangelism / Missions
- History
- Leadership
- Marriage / Family
- Theology
We will not be summarizing Commentaries, Reference Books, Biographies, or Devotionals.
We currently don't have a native mobile app, but hope to have one in the near future! Our library is totally mobile-friendly, however :)
We stand behind Accelerate 100% and are willing to give you a full refund in the first 30 days of your subscription. After 30 days, while you will no longer be eligible for a full refund, you can cancel at any time.
You can cancel your subscription in your account settings page, no questions asked. Upon canceling, you (and your group if you have one) will still have access until the period you have paid for is over.
We receive this question frequently – ever since it was first asked by Drax from Avengers Infinity War. While different answers have been given to this controversial question, we at Accelerate believe the answer is simply: Yes.
