Reversed Thunder
by Eugene Peterson | Book Summary
Author: Eugene Peterson |
The book of Revelation allows us to look at the world and the Word with new eyes, seeing things that have become familiar from a new, fresh perspective. In this sense, Revelation does not present us with anything new to see. Rather, Revelation offers us a new way of seeing. "Everything in the Revelation can be found in the previous sixty-five books of the Bible. The Revelation adds nothing of substance to what we already know. The truth of the gospel is already complete, revealed in Jesus Christ. There is nothing new to say on the subject. But there is a new way to say it." (p. xi) |
Eugene Peterson was born in 1932 and died in 2018. He spent his adult life as a professor, pastor, and author. He authored more than thirty books, including The Pastor (Peterson's memoir), Run with the Horses, A Long Obedience in the Same Direction, and As Kingfishers Catch Fire. He was also the author of The Message: The Bible in Contemporary Language.
