The best place to go in this world of hurt is God's Word. The Bible's honesty and hope help us to confront the circumstances of our lives rather than running from them. Lament is a valuable part of this work of meeting our circumstances and guiding our emotions. The Psalms of Lament are a particularly wonderful gift to us. The honesty and wisdom they provide show us the way to express our emotions in the presence of God our Father. They point us to the suffering of Christ on our behalf. Through lament, we can see that Christ died not only to redeem us eternally but also to help us daily to hope in Christ and to overcome emotional struggles. |
