Author: Ray Van Neste & J. Michael Garrett (Eds.) |
The story of the Reformation actually reaches all the way back to men like Augustine and Aquinas. In the 1500s, it included leaders like Luther, Calvin, and Zwingli. Moving forward, it touched the lives of Barth, Bonhoeffer, Bach, and Bunyan. With 500 years of history and perspective, one can look back and examine how the Protestant Reformation had an impact on theology and church history. Outside of church life, the Reformation also had a tremendous impact on literature, education, philosophy, art, politics, and music. Understanding the Protestant Reformation and how it has impacted society is critically important for evangelicals in the 21st century. We need to understand how the Reformation continues to impact our lives, and we need to recognize areas where we need Reformation influences even today. |
