The Bruised Reed
by Richard Sibbes | Book Summary
Author: Richard Sibbes |
Though we are often like a wick that is smoldering and barely giving off a flame, Christ is not here to stomp us out or douse the fire. Rather, He will fan the flames of that fire by increasing our faith in His deep love for us. Christ will bring judgment and justice to victory. For those who are His enemies, He will bring judgment unto death. For those whose faith is in Him, there will be life and victory because of His conquering of sin and death on the cross. |

Overview:
In Matthew 12:20, Jesus is shown to be the fulfillment of the prophecy of the bruised reed found in Isaiah 42:3. Christians face trials, sometimes due to sin, that God uses to bruise us. These bruises are not signs of the removal of God's presence or His disdain for us; instead, they are done for our good. They humble us so that we look to Him instead of ourselves.
