The Cross Before Me
by Rankin Wilbourne & Brian Gregor | Book Summary
Author: Rankin Wilbourne & Brian Gregor |
The Bible provides the answer for which man has longed. That answer, however, is surprising and counterintuitive. First, the Bible proclaims true happiness as communion with God. In order to determine the way to happiness, one must know what happiness is. The Bible claims that this is found in communion with the creator of the universe. Second, communion with God is found in the way of the cross. The answer of the timeless question of how man can be happy is surprisingly not found in earthly pleasures or getting everything one desires. It is found in the cross of Christ. Jesus dying on the cross provides the way of salvation for man by breaking down the barrier to communion with God that our sin erected. It also models the way of the good life: self-sacrifice, self-denial, and humility. |
Rankin Wilbourne is the former senior pastor of Pacific Crossroads Church in Los Angeles, California. He is the author of Union With Christ, and has a background in commercial banking. He was recently defrocked by the PCA and has since left the denomination.
Brian Gregor is an Associate Professor of Philosophy from California State University, Dominguez Hills, and is the author of A Philosophical Anthropology of the Cross and Ricoeur's Hermeneutics of Religion and a number of academic articles. He also edited two books on Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Originally from Canada, Brian lives in Los Angeles with his wife and two children.
