Book Summary of The God Who Is There by D. A. Carson

God is the central character of the Bible. The God of the Bible created everything we see, including human beings, His image-bearers. Early on in the Bible, God reveals Himself to be gracious. Adam and Eve sin, but they do not immediately die as was promised (Gen. 2:17). They rebel, but God does not wipe them out. Instead, He makes a promise to redeem them (Gen. 3:15).

As the narrative of Scripture progresses, God makes covenants with His people, reveals His law to them, and reveals Himself to be the King. The God of the Bible is wise beyond comparison, which is seen clearly in the incarnation of Christ.

Christ came to die on behalf of those who rebelled against Him. Jesus is an expression of God's great love for rebels (John 3:16; 1 Jo. 4:8-10).

This God is coming again and will dwell with His people face-to-face on the new earth. Scripture is about God, and throughout it, God is being revealed. He is the God who is there.
