Upset the World
by Tim Ross | Book Summary
Author: Tim Ross |
Anyone whose life has been upset by the gospel is an upsetter. When Jesus came into our lives to "turn it upside down" (p. 174), He sent us to do the same in the lives of others. Even "regular people, like you and me, are filled with the Spirit of God" (p. 9) and sent into the world as upsetters. If we want to live out the Great Commission and upset the world, we must be Spirit-reliant, obedient Christians who look for opportunities to serve people with our words and deeds. This was modeled for us by Jesus and His disciples throughout Scripture. Don't wait. Pray and strive to be "a person who will go out and share the love of Christ in the most relational way possible" (p. 13). |
Tim Ross is the pastor of Embassy City Church in Irving, TX — a multigenerational, multiethnic congregation. He has been married for over 20 years and is the father of two sons, Nathan and Noah.
Ross has spoken worldwide and has been described as someone with a "dynamic teaching style and uncanny ability to make people understand the gospel message" (p. 175). He teaches and preaches across denominational lines, which makes him even more effective in the eyes of many of his hearers.
Ross began his preaching career at the age 20 as a member of T.D. Jakes' Potter's House, where Jakes was his pastor, mentor, and friend. Jakes is a controversial pastor, author, and speaker because of his views on the trinity and his connection with the prosperity gospel. He was a crucial influence on Ross, and this can be seen in his writing and preaching, some of which runs counter to Reformed theology.

Overview:
Christians are called to upset the world. This is not:
- A call to be harsh
- A call to irritate unbelievers for the wrong reasons
- An optional focus for the super Christians who are gifted evangelists, preachers, or teachers.
