What About Free Will?
by Scott Christensen | Book Summary
Author: Scott Christensen |
God's absolute sovereignty is compatible with human freedom and responsibility. Ultimately, libertarian free will, the power of contrary choice, fails at a number of points. A better explanation is compatibilist free will. In the compatibilist explanation of human freedom, mankind is free when a person acts voluntarily in accordance with what they most want to do. This allows for a dual explanation, both divine and human, for very human action. God ordains all that man freely does. |

Overview:
A perennial question in theology is how God's sovereignty over the world fits with human freedom. If we believe the biblical account that God is in control of everything that happens, does that turn us into mere puppets with no responsibility for our actions? These types of questions touch every aspect of our theology and lives.
