Simply Trinity
by Matthew Barrett | Book Summary
Author: Matthew Barrett |
This problem is both ancient and modern. It is a drift that can be traced as far back as the heresies fought against in the early church and as recently as professors and authors in our own evangelical circles today. While our teachers may not rise to the heretical offenses of ancient Arius, they still contribute to our drift as they continue to misunderstand and misapply the ancient teaching of divine simplicity. Like the problem, the solution is also both ancient and modern. It is traced back to writings of Scripture and ancient creeds and heard in the ongoing conversation today in which many believers seek to understand the Trinity that is deeply biblical and, thus, true. Come see God in His trinitarian glory as He intended. As you do, help our culture slow the drift and return safely to shore. |
Matthew Barrett is associate professor of Christian theology at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, MO.
In addition to Simply Trinity, Barrett has authored other works including God's Word Alone, which offers a study in the doctrine of Scripture, None Greater, which offers a study in the attributes of God, and has contributed to Reformation Theology, which is a study in systematic theology. In addition to these academic resources, Barrett serves as the executive editor of Credo magazine and the host of the magazine's podcast.
Throughout all his work, Barrett demonstrates a tremendous love and understanding of biblical theology, church history, and the importance of translating that information in a manner that is accessible to the lay people of the church.

Overview:
The evangelical church has a problem of divine importance. That problem, which we may call Trinity drift, is the problem of drifting increasingly further from a right understanding of God as He has revealed Himself.
